An update from his emails

Laurie: I'm atempting this as David has not been able to post for a few days.  I'm just copying his shorter emails in this one post.  He called today, and it was wonderful to hear from him.  He's loving it.  I'll let him fill you in on that at a later time.

David:  My daily school schedule is this:
I help Steve with a morning class from 8-9am, I only need to be there a part of the time.
2-3pm I help a Thai teacher named Kong, he teaches pre-1, those kids can barely speak English. 4:45-6:45 I actually teach with Steve.

Our new room is nicer, it has more space and an extra bathroom all with hot water. The Church service was fine, but all the worship was done in Thai and I couldn't understand a word of it.  The sermon was on living victoriously in difficult times.

The typical day involves walking to the school and back twice. Today (Saturday), we went to the floating market and it was cool! Its a bunch of small shops that are all located in this big river system, I got something for Gracie too, when I get back you will all see what it is.

We use boats on the floating market, I took some pictures of so once I get a chance to put the pics on facebook I will. I have not gone into the city alone and never will, this place can be very intimidating.

Now that I finally have a good chunk of time to write, I can send you a good sized e-mail. Its 4:00pm as I write this, the time didn't throw me off that much but it won't be fun when I get back. The food here is interesting, a large portion of what they eat is rice, meat is typically just an added flavor, its pretty crazy how little meat they actaully eat. Many Thai people are very skinny, and short, so I feel like a giant over here!

The mall is actually on the same side of the street as we are, but the mall you mentioned is also right across the street. I walk about 1 hour a day back and forth from Santisuk, its a 15 minute walk to the school, and another 15 minutes to get back. Its very hot here, but its actually more tolerable than I thought. But hey, if the older people can do it, so can I.

To answer Sam's question: I flew in on a White plane with 2 blue and red stripes, it was a nice plane until we got into Tokyo and changed planes. The one we flew out of Tokyo with was a 777, whereas we flew to Tokyo in a 747, I preffered the 747.

Tell everyone I love them, you are all in my prayers.

  3. SO far its been very interesting. They sell nearly every kind of meat you can think of on the street, there are alot of different vendors. Most of the Thai guys in general give me odd looks, but everyone at the school loves me! A couple of days ago two girls wanted to have their picture taken with me. I thought it was kinda funny.
