Thailand is 180 degrees different than Muskegon, only 90 degrees in temperature difference though. Bangkok is a very old city and it's easy to tell by simply walking on the sidewalk, its very beat up and smashed. When we all arrived at the airport, a group of staff from Santisuk picked us up and took us to a place called the mall inn. My first impression of it wasn't great, but from seeing how most people live in this area of Bangkok I am thankful that I even get my own bedroom. We are extremely rich in the U.S.
The students here at Santisuk are still getting used to us and we to them, but from what I can see right now, they are very kind and thankful that we are here to teach them. Our classes are different, but I will do my best to describe them. Pastor Tom and Wendy teach two level 2 classes, level 2 classes are easier than level 1 because the students have already taken level 1 at Santisuk. David and Steve teach level 1, they have a small knowledge of the english language, but are still learning much. Rita has been helping in many different classes, Evelyn teaches level 2 and level 3, level three students have a good knowledge of english. Mel and Rosemary teach levels 1 and 3. Please pray that we will not just teach students good english, but that they will know and follow Jesus.
Aside from the people here, Thai food in itself is an adventure. 2 words the students tell us to say are "My pet", that's the way it sounds, but in Thai it means: "no spices". I'm amazed how these people's tongues don't disintegrate from the food they eat.
Being in Thailand is very interesting, in both good ways and bad ways. One thing seen almost everywhere here are statues and/or paintings of buddha, its a very deceived place, and they need the love of God more than anything right now.
Please keep us in your prayers.
Hey man! good to hear from you and so happy to know that you are having a good time. Do me a favor and eat something spicy then tell me all the feelings you had! lol or just smell it. Haha!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. We are so rich here in America but we don't actually see it until we are in the midst of poverty.
We love you and miss you tons but enjoy your time there! It will be over before you know it!
um and can we get pictures or is the internet that slow?
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful opportunity for you David - and for all those that went. Praying for opportunities to share Jesus with your students and all those you come into contact with. God bless and keep you all in His care.
ReplyDeleteHey David great to hear from you! Sounds intresting and like a great place to learn a lot about how God provides. Espeacially when here in America everything is at our finger tips. Thanks for sharing. We will keep praying for you and all those with you.

So far Ben, the craziest food I've tried is Tofu. And let me tell you it was not as bad as I thought it would be.
