Only 4 more days of class!

Another update via email:
It's close to 3 digits in farenheit here, I'll be glad to have the cold back. We don't get much rain, it rained a couple days ago but not much. The humidity can be really bad on some days and very dry on others, it can change easily.  We went to the Grand Palace on Friday with some students.  It's magnificent.  It was HOT.  A lot of the time we were outside.  It was very interesting, but the king doesn't even live there.

I can't believe I only have four more days of class.  As much as I try to show the students the love of Christ, its not easy sometimes. I feel like I'm getting through to the students easier than some of the other teachers. I don't know if it's because I'm younger or because I use language they can understand better, but I know they all like me a lot. I would do it again, not till next February though, I need some time at home.

Sometimes I feel like I'm making a difference, sometimes not, but one thing they told us in orientation is that students rarely come to know Christ in their first level at Santisuk. I can only pray that I make a difference in their lives. Don't forget I come back March 4, it won't be long.

Half way there!

Its already been two weeks, but here it doesn't feel like it. Time has sped up just like home......

Classes are going well, I wish I could bring all these students back to America, they are really a blast. On saturday, it was 100 degrees, but Pastor and Wendy, Steve and I, and some students and staff all went on a trip to the bridge over the river Kwai. The trip was really cool, the cemetary was moving. I took alot of pictures to show you all when I get back, alot of things were somewhat disturbing such as the buddhist temple, it was a good experience though.

On sunday, me and steve went on a walk down the street adn looked at some of the street vendors, it was cool but disgusting at the same time.

Keep us in your prayers!

Sincerely,
David.

An update from his emails

Laurie: I'm atempting this as David has not been able to post for a few days.  I'm just copying his shorter emails in this one post.  He called today, and it was wonderful to hear from him.  He's loving it.  I'll let him fill you in on that at a later time.

David:  My daily school schedule is this:
I help Steve with a morning class from 8-9am, I only need to be there a part of the time.
2-3pm I help a Thai teacher named Kong, he teaches pre-1, those kids can barely speak English. 4:45-6:45 I actually teach with Steve.

Our new room is nicer, it has more space and an extra bathroom all with hot water. The Church service was fine, but all the worship was done in Thai and I couldn't understand a word of it.  The sermon was on living victoriously in difficult times.

The typical day involves walking to the school and back twice. Today (Saturday), we went to the floating market and it was cool! Its a bunch of small shops that are all located in this big river system, I got something for Gracie too, when I get back you will all see what it is.

We use boats on the floating market, I took some pictures of so once I get a chance to put the pics on facebook I will. I have not gone into the city alone and never will, this place can be very intimidating.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Now that I finally have a good chunk of time to write, I can send you a good sized e-mail. Its 4:00pm as I write this, the time didn't throw me off that much but it won't be fun when I get back. The food here is interesting, a large portion of what they eat is rice, meat is typically just an added flavor, its pretty crazy how little meat they actaully eat. Many Thai people are very skinny, and short, so I feel like a giant over here!

The mall is actually on the same side of the street as we are, but the mall you mentioned is also right across the street. I walk about 1 hour a day back and forth from Santisuk, its a 15 minute walk to the school, and another 15 minutes to get back. Its very hot here, but its actually more tolerable than I thought. But hey, if the older people can do it, so can I.

To answer Sam's question: I flew in on a White plane with 2 blue and red stripes, it was a nice plane until we got into Tokyo and changed planes. The one we flew out of Tokyo with was a 777, whereas we flew to Tokyo in a 747, I preffered the 747.

Tell everyone I love them, you are all in my prayers.

Well, it took me long enough!

Thailand is 180 degrees different than Muskegon, only 90 degrees in temperature difference though. Bangkok is a very old city and it's easy to tell by simply walking on the sidewalk, its very beat up and smashed. When we all arrived at the airport, a group of staff from Santisuk picked us up and took us to a place called the mall inn. My first impression of it wasn't great, but from seeing how most people live in this area of Bangkok I am thankful that I even get my own bedroom. We are extremely rich in the U.S.

The students here at Santisuk are still getting used to us and we to them, but from what I can see right now, they are very kind and thankful that we are here to teach them. Our classes are different, but I will do my best to describe them. Pastor Tom and Wendy teach two level 2 classes, level 2 classes are easier than level 1 because the students have already taken level 1 at Santisuk. David and Steve teach level 1, they have a small knowledge of the english language, but are still learning much. Rita has been helping in many different classes, Evelyn teaches level 2 and level 3, level three students have a good knowledge of english. Mel and Rosemary teach levels 1 and 3. Please pray that we will not just teach students good english, but that they will know and follow Jesus.

Aside from the people here, Thai food in itself is an adventure. 2 words the students tell us to say are "My pet", that's the way it sounds, but in Thai it means: "no spices". I'm amazed how these people's tongues don't disintegrate from the food they eat.

Being in Thailand is very interesting, in both good ways and bad ways. One thing seen almost everywhere here are statues and/or paintings of buddha, its a very deceived place, and they need the love of God more than anything right now.

Please keep us in your prayers.
